Based on 1979 sci-fi masterpiece Alien, the horror survival videogame, Alien: Isolation, has become a successful hit to warrant its own sequel. With Ridley Scott producing and Sigourney Weaver reprising her role, will the popular game have an influence on Neill Blomkamp as he writes and directs Alien 5?

As we previously mentioned, Amanda Ripley searches throughout the darkest realms of outer-space for her missing mother, Ellen Ripley. While searching for her mother's whereabouts, Amanda unfortunately uncovers the frightening truth behind the Nostromo massacre. Just like her mother, Amanda ends up having a close encounter of the deadly kind with a space killer.

According to Io9, the director of District 9 posted concept art on Instagram for an Alien movie he had been working on in secret. Word of mouth grew so big that the studio had to green-lit this version and get Blomkamp working on the sci-fi sequel as his next project. The movie gained momentum as Weaver jumped at the chance to play Ripley again.

In an interview with IGN, the Chappie director answers if he has played the game, "I think it's amazing. Even from the first screen grabs, just the quality of the art direction and how it looks. I'm such a visual person that the narrative of stuff is neither here nor there for me sometimes. It's literally about imagery. And when I saw the images I thought 'Sh*t, they can't be that good.' And then I played it and to me it was that good. It's so good. It's ridiculous. It's actually interesting because it raises an interesting design question for me which is that when Alien was made it was cutting edge.

Blomkamp hints at the game's influence on his visual style, "So it's an interesting debate if you look at it from my stand-point, which is do I make my cutting edge... is it cutting edge, or is it actually closer to the first two. Because I wanted to be like it has the same parent. It's a genetic offspring of the first two movies, and Alien Isolation made me question that quite a lot. Because they got it so perfect with all of the late 1970s early '80s tech, it's really cool."
