The first season finale of the Batman prequel, Gotham, aired on Fox. In the upcoming Season 2 of Gotham, will Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) be able to play nice and show "respect" to Oswald Coppleput/Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor), who has become "The King of Gotham City?"

In our previous recap, while the Ogre was holding Barbara (Erin Richards) hostage as his sex slave, Bruce (David Mazouz) discovered his father was just as corrupt as everyone else in Gotham. Though he failed to save Barbara's murdered parents, Gordon put a bullet in the Ogre's head in their final standoff. Penguin set up the final stage of his plan as Carmine Falcone and Sal Maroni are now engaged in a mob war.

In our finale recap, after a botched hit, Gordon came to the rescue of Carmine Falcone just when Penguin was about to slit his throat. Trouble mounted for the detective as Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett Smith) returned with a vengeance and shot Sal Maroni (David Zayas) in the head. Elsewhere, Barbara confessed to Leslie Thompkins (Morena Baccarin) that she murdered her parents and almost tried to kill her.

In the closing minutes, Falcone gave up his life of crime after Jim helped him reach a safe house. The Penguin took his revenge on Fish, grabbed her, and threw her off the roof; officially making him the number one mob boss. Bruce discovered his father was actually hiding the Batcave.

In an interview with TV Guide, Taylor reveals Gordon and Penguin's new relationship, "Penguin will be demanding more respect from Jim and if Jim doesn't deliver it, their friendship is essentially over. Even though Jim repaid his favor, their relationship is fundamentally undermined because Jim essentially betrayed him. All of the trust that he had in Jim is completely in question. He will obviously try to keep Jim close, but if Jim doesn't play along or play nice, it's on."

McKenzie tells TV Line that Gordon will face pressure from sole surviving mob boss, "I think it's the devil you know, at least for Jim, who has the deepest relationship, in a way, with Penguin. But he's obviously the most volatile [villain], and the most cunning ,as evidenced by his meteoric rise through the criminal syndicate in only one year."
