We all know that dieting can be good for our bodies, but who knew that it could be equally as beneficial for our brains? Well, according to new reports, following a Mediterranean diet could very well lead to not only a better body, but also a healthier brain. Which, of course, means it could make you smarter in the long run...

Health.com reports that adding a diet "rich in fruits, vegetables, fish and whole grains" and low in red meat might very well sharpen your brain as you grow older.

Dr. Emilio Ros, Director of the Lipid Clinic over in Barcelona, notes, "You can delay the onset of age-related mental decline with a healthy diet rich in foods with a high antioxidant power, such as virgin olive oil and nuts."

Furthermore, the Health.com report claims that age is not a factor in changing your brain, as some of the people who participated in the study were on average 67 years old.

Olive oil and nuts, two foods which have been linked with having beneficial results on the brain, are favored in the doctors' study. Dr. Sam Gandy claims their findings weren't' really a surprise, but more so a reminder that "there is more to the Mediterranean diet than meat, fruits and vegetables..." Meaning that remembering to incorporate olive oil and nuts only adds to the diet's benefits.

So, readers, what do you think of the study? Are you following a Mediterranean diet? Take a look at a few Instagram photos of the diet and then decide...
