The latest actress named in new casting rumors for the Marvel Cinematic Universe's upcoming movie adaptation of the popular comic book series Captain Marvel is none other than Academy Award winner Charlize Theron. Some are pointing to her performance as the leading heroine in 2015's Mad Max: Fury Road as reason enough to cast Sean Penn's girlfriend as Carol Danvers, but adding this new speculation to gossip over Angelina Jolie possibly serving as director on the project and you've got a recipe for success! This casting rumor has been spreading for almost an entire month now, but the recent release of Fury Road has added fuel to the gossip fire, according to IGN.

Earlier last month, a source spoke to OK! Magazine (via Yahoo) about Jolie and Theron teaming up for this highly anticipated project.

"Marvel has been courting Angie to direct the project and Charlize is a clear fan favorite for the starring role. If Charlize were to get the part, Angie would almost certainly sign on to work with her new pal," the insider said.

We're not sure if this rumor is worth considering, especially since it came from a gossip magazine that rarely covers casting news for Marvel. The only reason why the movie was brought up is because the article is about Jolie and Theron hanging out recently, so let's not get ahead of ourselves just yet.
