WGN America will be offering a first-look pilot screening of their upcoming drama Underground. Join the highly anticipated premiere alongside stars Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Aldis Hodge, and Alano Miller at the 2015 New York Comic-Con.

According to the plot synopsis, the period drama takes place in the antebellum South. During this time period, the slaves at a plantation risk everything for a chance at freedom. They all want to head on over to the North and escape on the Underground Railroad. The show will also examine the lives of slaveholders, slave hunters, and abolitionists.

As The Wrap reports, during the advance screening at New York Comic Con, the panel will be followed by a Q&A session with the cast and crew. Underground stars Jurnee Smollett-Bell (True Blood), Aldis Hodge (Straight Outta Compton) and Alano Miller (Jane The Virgin) are joined by the creators, Misha Green and Joe Pokaski, on Sunday, October 11 at 2:45 p.m. in Room 1A06 at the Javitz Center in New York.

As Variety mentions, Academy award winning musician John Legend has signed on as executive producer and states, "We are excited to join forces with WGN America and Sony and the talented team of writers and producers on this powerful project that we believe will inspire us all. This series has a unique opportunity to speak to the passion and courage of those who risked it all as they raced to freedom. We are honored to bring our creative vision to this thrilling project."

As we previously mentioned, WGN's Manhattan did indeed take home the award for Outstanding Main Title Design at the 2015 Creative Arts Emmy Awards. The main title credits were designed by Imaginary Forces' Creative Director Dan Gregoras, Art Director Jeremy Cox, and Producer Jon Hasselll. This also marks the first Emmy nomination ever and win received for original programming on WGN America.

Underground is slated premiere in 2016 on WGN America.
