IDW Publishing continues with with the comic book series based on the popular Back to the Future franchise. In Back To The Future #3, time-travelers Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) and Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd) share heir reunion in unexpected ways as their origin stories are explored .

As we perviously mentioned, Back to the Future follows teenager Marty McFly (Fox) who found himself displaced in the '50s, thanks to scientist Dr. Emmet Brown (Lloyd)'s time machine. Marty meets the younger versions of his parents , Lorraine and George, (Crispin Glover, Lea Thompson), who turn out to be nerds. After disrupting events of his mother and father's timeline, Marty has to make sure that they fall in love, or he will never exist.

As we mentioned before, Back to the Future screenwriter Bob Gale and John Barber, have thankfully stuck closely from canon. Continuing after the events of Part III, Doc Brown is both a father to his two kids and a loving husband to his wife, Clara (Mary Steenburgen). The narrative depicts Doc's progression as a mature and quirky father with his adorable children.

In the third installment, Gale and Barber continue the original tale through Doc's perspective, after the events of the prom. It turns out George and Lorraine are still together in college, but they just hit a rough patch. Though they need Calvin Marty Klein's advice, Doc is afraid that if the parents break-up, Marty will never be born.

The artwork by Barber captures an animated caricature of the ensemble cast. Notice how Doc's dog, Copernicus, is in sync with his master's facial expressions when they look at each other. Barber has fun with the panel layouts in a hilarious sequence as Lorraine, George, Copernicus and Doc get caught in a conundrum.

RATING: MUST BUY
