Metallica's James Hetfield will be honored in a benefit concert at Facebook Headquarters in Menlo Park, CA this Saturday. The event is hosted by "Little Kids Rock," a national education movement giving public school students access to music classes. They offer teachers free trainings and curriculum that focus on modern music and instruments. To raise money for such resources, they host fun events with recognizable names in music. Netflix has had wild success developing original series, and now Amazon is following a similar lead by releasing two comedies. Alpha House is premiering November 15th and Betas on November 22nd, according to Deadline.com. All Amazon customers will get the first three episodes for free. After this, each series will release one episode at a time, and they will only be available on Prime Instant Video, Amazon's subscription service. Read More »
Stars turn to psychics for guidance in career moves, support in life decisions, and even a look into the future. Brad Pitt, Cameron Diaz and George Clooney have visited psychics in the past. Other stars are very vocal about it to the media. Jenna Dewan, Channing Tatum's wife, recently talked about her love of mediums to Chelsea Handler on Chelsea Lately. Tomorrow a documentary hits New York City theaters to triumph a group of people in the film industry who are not recognized by the Academy Awards: casting directors. Tom Donahue's Casting By features Juliet Taylor, among other casting directors. Taylor has casted such diverse films as Big and Schindler's List. In support of Taylor and the documentary, Woody Allen penned on open letter to The Hollywood Reporter. The letter covers Juliet Taylor's large role in shaping his films: Matchpoint, Vicky Cristina Barcelona, Midnight in Paris, To Rome With Love, Blue Jasmine (the list goes on and dates back to 1977's Annie Hall). The indie film of the year is Short Term 12. Some critics may end up deeming it film of the year, period. Think Diablo Cody's Juno with even more character layers and grit (but still, humor just when you need it). You've seen lead Brie Larson seen in Showtime's The United States of Tara, which is actually created, written and produced by Diablo Cody. We await the lineup for the famed Nobel Peace Prize Concert, but the Associated Press has announced the host of December 11th's show: "Homeland" lead Claire Danes. The show will honor the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW). Most shows have been co-hosted in the past: Scarlett Johansson and Michael Caine in 2008, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith in 2009, up to last year's Sarah Jessica Parker and Gerard Butler. The Parents Television Council is livid that the IFC Center in New York has shown "Blue is the Warmest Color," an NC-17 rated French film, to teenagers who aren't of age. The PTC President Tim Winter sent a letter to IFC Center General Manager and SVP John Vanco. The main reason for the MPAA rating is the sex scene between Adèle Exarchopoulos (who plays a girl by her name, Adèle) and Léa Seydoux (Emma, who is older than her). Exarchopoulos herself is just 16. The Chelsea Hotel has played host to legendary figures in art and entertainment over 100 years. Its importance transcends geographical boundaries, as well. The Guardian recently reported the latest touring production for the British company Earthfall is "Chelsea Hotel." They're performing all around the UK until December 5th, bringing the cultural landmark of New York abroad. Built in the late 19th century as part of artist housing-the "Hubert Home Clubs." This past summer 50 Shades of Grey fans were all abuzz that Ian Somerhalder would star as Christian Grey in the 50 Shades movie. That gossip has come to a halt with the recent casting of the lead. Taking its place is speculation over his relationship with ex-girlfriend Nina Dobrev, costar in CW's The Vampire Diaries. But Somerhalder is involved with issues just as newsworthy -- just not getting as much publicity: the Ian Somerhalder Foundation. The goal is "to positively impact the planet and its creatures." Roman Polanski, a director with a history rich in culture, filmmaking and scandal, has a latest storyline that touches on all: the Dreyfus affair. The controversy started in 1894, when Captain Alfred Dreyfus, a French and Jewish man, was convicted of passing French military secrets to Germany. Homeland is still Showtime's top series, so it's no surprise Deadline.com reported it has just been picked up for a forth season. The CIA thriller has an all-star cast of Emmy Winners Damian Lewis and Mandy Patinkin. And of course, Golden Globe winner Claire Danes (twice now, for Homeland). Though twitter has been fairly snarky about a snoozey opening to the third season, it's back in full stride and has numbers to prove it.
