On Monday evening's episode (Dec. 17) of NBC's hit reality singing competition "The Voice," judges and contestants joined together onstage for a beautiful, touching "Hallelujah" tribute to the victims of the recent tragic school shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Connecticut. Judges Blake Shelton, Adam Levine, Christina Aguilera, and Cee Lo Green took on major chorus lines with over 20 popular contestants singing in the background to open the first part of this season's two-part finale. The stage was illuminated with candles, and each individual in the choir held up a white placard with the name and age of an innocent victim who lost his/her life in Friday morning's devastating shooting. Many activists, including popular celebrities, have spoken out in the wake of the devastating school shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Connecticut which ultimately claimed the lives of 20 innocent children and six heroic faculty members. Several individuals believe that America needs to enforce stricter gun control laws to help ensure that such a tragic and violent event doesn't take place again. Actor Samuel L. Jackson is not one of those activists. On Friday, December 14 at approximately 9:40 a.m., 20-year-old Adam Lanza shot his way into the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut - ultimately killing 20 young students (ages 6-7) and six faculty members. Before the tragic and devastating massacre occurred, Lanza destroyed his personal computer and hard drive kept at the suburban home he shared with his mother, 52-year-old Nancy Lanza (Adam's first victim). After investigators spent several days trying to extract data from the smashed hard drive, little information has been able to be recovered. Recent reports allege that Richard Engel, the popular and well-respected NBC News foreign correspondent, has gone missing in Syria. Engel and Aziz Akyavaş, a Turkish journalist who was working with him, have been unaccounted for in the Asian country since December 13. Turkish media has been circulating the "missing persons" report for several days, but up until Monday (Dec. 14) American news outlets had been operating under a "news blackout" requested by NBC.
