Late R&B singer Aaliyah married music producer/singer R. Kelly at the tender age of 15. Aaliyah's family was clearly not pleased when they heard the news. The new Lifetime biopic, "Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B," recreated the moment the late singer brought home her new husband, 28 at the time. "You did what?!" asks Aaliyah's father (Sterling Jarvis). "Did you lie on the marriage license?" Check out the clip here: In real life, "Vibe Magazine" later uncovered that Aaliyah (Alexandra Shipp) did lie about her age. In a published marriage license, her age is listed as 18. The "marriage" lasted about seven months and was annulled by her parents in February 1995. According to "Essence," talk show host Wendy Williams, the movie's executive producer, said it was important to portray the scandalous relationship in the film. Williams recalled telling Lifetime they had to "get this Aaliyah movie right." "I was very popular on the radio for Aaliyah's rise and untimely death. I want to hear about R. Kelly ... Don't skate over it. This needs to be a big plot line," she said. Music critic Jim DeRogatis has found some issues with the film's portrayal of Aaliyah and Kelly's relationship. In a blog post, DeRogatis, who has covered Kelly's career extensively, writes that fans "deserve better than the sanitized, soft-pedaled version of her disturbing sexual relationship with Chicago producer R. Kelly when she was 14 and he was 27." DeRogatis adds that court documents show that the relationship was "one of abuse and victimization, far from the 'puppy love' seen in 'Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B.'" Read More »
Victoria's Secret and "Sports Illustrated" model Sara Sampaio recently made an emotional response to those who criticized her for being too thin after posting a bikini picture, Nov. 12, with the following caption, "Finally in a place with bikini weather...hello LA." Check out the photo below: "Fashion Gone Rogue" reports that after receiving backlash for being "too skinny," the Portuguese model posted another bikini photo via Instagram with a message saying that she is proud of her body and won't allow people to bully her anymore: "I'm proud of my body and I'm not gonna let any of you bully me just because I'm skinny! Every body is different, and every metabolism is different! I eat a lot...I probably eat more burgers than you, I've always been skinnier, and probably will always be..." She continues, "The amount of hate I see thrown at me and to other model friends that I know are naturally skinny [is] ridiculous! Tom Ford's latest beauty venture, Lips & Boys, consists of 50 miniature — or as Ford calls them, "clutch-sized" — lipsticks in his Estée Lauder-licensed beauty line. According to "WWD," each of the 50 shades — named for a man past or present in Ford's life — will also be available for sale separately, beginning Nov. 28 at 12:01 a.m. on tomford.com for one day. On Dec. 26, it will reappear in-store in 200 of the brand's 400 global doors, and in 100 doors in North America. Ford says he's determined to build his beauty brand into an economic powerhouse rivaling that of corporate siblings Clinique, MAC Cosmetics and Estée Lauder. "If I don't believe I have something to say, and if I don't believe that I can compete, I don't do it," Ford said emphatically during an exclusive interview with "WWD." "I've never understood people who wanted to do something and said, 'Oh, I'm going to do this, but I'm just going to be the second-best.' I believe that I have a point of view in beauty, and I believe we have enormous potential." How much potential? Aside from her upcoming Fashion for Relief shows, Naomi Campbell is doing her part in the fight against Ebola by selling her second-hand clothes. Starting Nov. 28, the supermodel will set up shop in Westfield London, for one week, allowing customers to buy not only her pre-worn designer clothes but those of her many stylish friends, too, including Kate Moss, with all profits going toward Ebola prevention and education. Others who have donated clothing include Campbell's many high-profile friends. According to "Fashion Telegraph," customers can also expect new designer pieces at exclusive prices, and items purchased will earn shoppers the chance to win a one-off celebrity item each day in a special Golden Ticket lottery. The shop is part of Campbell's Fashion for Relief foundation, which she founded in 2005 as a way of generating funds for disaster relief through fashion shows, auctions and pop-up shops. The highly anticipated film, "Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B" is airing tonight on Lifetime at 8 p.m. EST. Actress, Alexandra Shipp, has taken the role of Aaliyah in the biopic, after Zendaya Coleman (the original choice) resigned. MStars News recently reported the movie underwent some controversy earlier this year when it was announced that Coleman would be taking on the role of the R&B singer. After facing some pretty harsh criticism and scrutiny, however, the Disney star backed out of the project, leaving the door open for Shipp to take over the lead role. The phrase "plus size" has been thrown around the Internet a lot over the past few days, fueled largely by an ELLE.com interview with model Myla Dalbesio. Dalbesio spoke to ELLE.com about her latest gig, modeling for Calvin Klein's "Perfectly Fit" campaign alongside big names such as Lara Stone, Jourdan Dunn, and Ji Hye Park. She spoke about "what a great feeling" it was to book that job, when, at a size 10, Dalbesio said that she is "not skinny enough to be with the skinny girls and I'm not large enough to be with the large girls." She added: "I haven't been able to find my place." According to Gary Dakin, Dalbesio's agent, the models in the plus-size subset can be categorized as "over a size 8-10."
