It came down to penalty shots, but Napoli defeated Juventus to win the Italian Super Cup Monday, Dec. 22, according to the Associated Press, via "Sports Illustrated." Napoli goaltender Rafael made the winning save on Juventus's Simone Padoin on the final shot after Kalidou Koulibaly converted for Napoli. The shoot-out decided a match that had been stalled at 2-2 after extra time. The tension of the match was matched only by the anticipation of it, as the Super Cup is usually played in August, according to Football Italia. But this year, fans had to wait months due to scheduling conflicts and international commitments to see the winner. Manny Ramirez was known throughout his 19-year MLB career as one of the best all-around hitters of all time, as a hitter extremely difficult to strike out and as a hitter who rarely missed. But as it turns out, he can't hit a stationary golf ball. No matter how hard he tries. It's as funny as it sounds — the goofy, prank-happy Ramirez failing miserably while wearing pastel colors. His former teammate, Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz, thought so, too. Ortiz trolled Ramirez on Twitter Monday, Dec. 22, posting a video of Ramirez swinging and missing at Ortiz's recent charity golf event. Ortiz took a video and ESPN placed Ramirez in the "Not Top 10." Ortiz wrote, "#RedSoxNation at least many is a better baseball player than he is a golfer jajaja." Ortiz also posted the video to Instagram. The jokester added the hashtag "#mannybeingmanny." San Francisco 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh will be fired within 48 hours of the end of the NFL team's season, says Jay Glazer. The coach - who has gone - is facing mounting speculation he will head to an NFL team such as the Chicago Bears, Oakland Raiders, or New York Jets, or perhaps head back to college to take over his alma mater the Michigan Wolverines. Harbaugh coached at Stanford before heading to the NFL and taking the 49ers to the 2012 Super Bowl, as well as the 2011 and 2013 NFC Championship games. Read More »
Ever since April 2011, when Troy Tulowitzki spent four games pulverizing the New York Mets at Citi Field, making diving catches and blasting home runs over the previously unreachable fences, Mets fans have salivated for the power-hitting shortstop. Now that the Colorado Rockies have put Tulowitzki officially on the trading block, that salivation has turned into a ravenous drool. Throw in the fact that the Mets's starting shortstop hit .237 last season while Tulowitzki owns a career .299/.373/.603 slash line and ... you get it. They want him bad. But can they get him? The Rockies will ultimately want a huge return for Tulowitzki, who is perennially considered one of the National League's top three position players despite a career filled with injuries. With last week's starter Jimmy Clausen suffering a concussion after Chicago's loss to Detroit on Sunday, and the NFL team wanting to finish the season on a high, Bears head coach Marc Trestman has turned back to his benched, $126 million star. Will this mean the husband of The Hills and Laguna Beach star Kristin Cavallari could stay in Chicago and avoid a trade to the New York Jets, Washington Redskins, Tennessee Titans or St Louis Rams? This is more than just a high point in Ronaldo's career. The forward recently won the Club World Cup last week with Real Madrid. SBNation reports Ronaldo is the only player to win all of soccer's major awards — Golden Boot, Ballon d'Or, Champions League cup, Club World Cup — with two teams. Ronaldo starred for Manchester United before joining Madrid. He became the highest earner in Spanish football after signing a new five-year contact worth €17 million per year in 2013, according to ESPN. So he's deserving of a statue. The Detroit Pistons have waived Josh Smith, with $26 million still remaining on the contract star forward signed with the NBA team last year (which the Pistons still have to pay). Pistons Head Coach and President of Basketball Operations Stan Van Gundy told Smith the news this morning in a meeting, and early indications are that the L.A. Clippers, Houston Rockets, Sacramento Kings and Dallas Mavericks are interested in picking up the 6 ' 9" combo forward. Even it's a move to free up space for star center Andre Drummond, power forward Greg Monroe, similarly under-performing point guard Brandon Jennings and second-year guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, simply waiving Smith a remarkable move.
