Though we still have no idea what director Gareth Edwards' 2016 standalone Star Wars film is based on, this week we learned of four high profile actresses that have reportedly auditioned for roles in the spin-off movie! Early rumors and reports speculated that we could see a Han Solo storyline after this year's The Force Awakens, but now our focus is on the actresses that allegedly met with producers for the film. These starlets include 2015 Academy Award nominee Felicity Jones, Kate Mara, Rooney Mara and Orphan Black star Tatiana Maslany. Find out more on these actresses and this news below! (SPOILERS to follow)

The Hollywood Reporter broke the casting and auditioning news earlier this week, with Variety adding Kate Mara to the list later on, according to Slash Film. If you asked us, any of these talented stars would be great for a Star Wars film, especially a highly anticipated spin-off project from the Godzilla director, but let's take a closer look at Jones, Mara, Maslany and, well, Mara!

Felicity Jones (pictured above) is sure to become an international name now that she was just nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress for her portrayal in The Theory of Everything. Plus, if she wins her Oscar, she'll be more in-demand than ever! She also has some "nerd" credentials thanks to her role in The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

Kate Mara won over plenty of fans with her role on Netflix's House of Cards, so she definitely has a big draw for audiences and has the talent to back it up. She's also set to star in 2015's Fantastic Four reboot movie, which is directed by Josh Trank - another director set to helm a Star Wars spin-off.

Kate's sister Rooney has been very busy with a steady flow of independent feature films, and showed a lot of edge with the American Girl with the Dragon Tattoo adaptation. She definitely has a Queen Amidala look to her as well.

Perhaps the best choice, in the minds of sci-fi fans, would be Maslany. The star of Orphan Black has plenty of range and her fans would absolutely love to see her make the jump to the big screen. Though she isn't exactly as recognizable as the other starlets listed above, Star Wars films are known to use unknown actors.

Meanwhile, Making Star Wars reported this week that the Edwards standalone film is set to film in Mexico this year. You can read more on this here!
