There is only episode left for the Batman prequel, Gotham, on Fox. In Episode 22, will detective Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) and gangster Oswald Coppleput/Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor), and former mob boss Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett Smith) become "broken people" by the end of the first season finale?

In our previous recap, while Gordon discovered the hideous origin of The Ogre (Milo Ventimiglia), Edward discovered Kristin Kringle (Chelsea Spack) was being abused by her boyfriend. When Edward confronted Dougherty about her bruises, he made no apologies about what he was doing to her. When Edward and Dougherty confronted each other again, Nygma had to defend himself and stabbed Kringle's boyfriend again and again.

In our recent recap, while the Ogre was holding Barbara (Erin Richards) hostage as his sex slave, Bruce (David Mazouz) discovered his father was just as corrupt as everyone else in Gotham. Though he failed to save Barbara's murdered parents, Gordon put a bullet in the Ogre's head in their final standoff. Penguin set up the final stage of his plan as Carmine Falcone and Sal Maroni are now engaged in a mob war.

In an interview with Comic Book, showrunner Bruno Heller reveals the themes behind Gotham City, "It seemed like Gotham is full of broken people. It's a noir world and there's always a fine balance between the comic book nature of it and the graphic novel nature of it; the childish nature of the world and the adult nature of the world, and Barbara is kind of living in that line."

In an interview with Deadline, McKenzie describes his character arc, "Gordon's ascendance in the hierarchy of the GCPD is marked by Gotham's descent into chaos. He's gaining power as he's falling apart morally and as the city is falling apart literally. It becomes anarchy. That's a fascinating premise for a series."

Smith promises to People, "I think people are going to have a really good time watching it. I think the fans are going to be really satisfied."
