While the internet has been aflame over Kendrick Lamar's (actually kind of lackluster...I mean a list of names is an audacious thing to put out, but it's still just a list) verse on Big Sean's "Control," Lupe Fiasco has been busy doing something about it. While Lupe was not explicitly mentioned in the verse that called out Jay Z, 2 Chainz, Rick Ross, Wale and others, he did release two songs (one seeming to address the controversy directly, the other just a decent song to prove he's still got it) "SLR 2" and "#DopeFrancis." In an interesting take, Lupe tweeted ghostwritten responses to K-Dot's diss in the style of other rappers and it is amazing how spot on they are. Read More »
Uh-oh. Looks like Frank Ocean is reigniting his beef with Chris Brown on the Earl Sweatshirt song "Sunday." The Doris cut features an entire not-quite-veiled verse that trashes Breezy for being soft, getting beat up even when calling in two other dudes on the diminutive Ocean and, of course, not standing for the Odd Future member at the Grammys. In case you've been away from the internet for the last week or so, the second half of Breaking Bad Season 5 premeired Sunday night on AMC. Since then, there have been countless recaps, evaluations, power rankings and predictions put forth by obsessives of Vince Gilligan's painstakingly crafted meth masterpiece (as a hardcore watcher, I probably read most of them). Hunger Games star Liam Hemsworth was on Jimmy Kimmel Live promoting his new movie Paranoia last night, and he failed to say one word about his uber-famous fiancee Miley Cyrus. Good friends and American Idol alums Jessica Sanchez and Candice Glover were spotted together at the Teen Choice Awards on Sunday. Glover was on hand to see if she won Choice Breakout Artist (the award went to Ed Sheeran) when she snapped the above picture with Sanchez and Fifth Harmony. Lady Gaga has officially turned criticism launched her way on its head for her latest ad for ARTPOP lead single "Applause." The clip features Gaga in a plastic mask we've seen before. I'll admit after hearing "Fugitive Air," the first track off of Of Montreal's upcoming album lousy with sylvianbriar, I was nervous. Sure, the track sounded like old-school 60s-loving OM, but the band had broken my heart by devolving into psych-pop wonkery before and I was damned if I was going to let it happen twice. But now that "She Ain't Speaking Now," a late Beatles-aping acoustic-electric slice of sunshine pop, has dropped I can finally get excited for Of Montreal again. Read More »
