AMD has shaken the high-end processor market with its new Ryzen chips. The current generation chips are based on the AMD Zen architecture and offer a great price to performance ratio. The upcoming Zen2 chips called 'Pinnacle Ridge' are promised to bring better performance and power efficiency.

AMD Ryzen has brought competition in the high-end processor market which was dominated by Intel for several years. The price and performance of AMD's chips are unmatched by Intel in most cases and gaming enthusiasts are also considering AMD's offerings. This is because several benchmarks reveal that Ryzen is not meant for a 'no-compromise gaming experience,' Mstar News reported.

The current generation AMD Ryzen CPUs are known as 'Summit Ridge' and are based on the Zen architecture. The upcoming 'Pinnacle Ridge' chips will be based on Zen2 and Zen3 architecture. Ryzen has 52% increase in IPC (Instruction Per Clock) over the previous generation AMD CPUs and Zen2 should offer 5-15% increase in IPC over the current generation Ryzen chips, Digital Trends reported.

AMD CEO Lisa Su said in a session on Reddit - "In new product development, you always learn a lot and we have our list of things that we are adding to Zen2 and Zen3 to get even more performance going forward." The 'Pinnacle Ridge' chips from AMD will go head to head with Intel's upcoming 'Coffee Lake' chips which are said to be released later this year or in the beginning of next year.

As per the reports, there will be no socket change for Zen2 and Zen3 chips and AM4 socket will do the job. It is also suggested that 'Pinnacle Ridge' will bring support for higher clocked RAM modules and the chip will be manufactured using the 14nm manufacturing process. Additionally, 'Pinnacle Ridge' will bring higher clocked chips owing to the refinements and are expected to be available in Q1 2018.
