"New Girl" Season 7 will open three years following the events in Season 6, according to Deadline. The installment will kick off after the Season 6 finale, which saw Nick (Jake Johnson) and Jess (Zoey Deschanel) back together again. The finale saw the on-and-off couple kissed on the elevator. Finally, Nick admitted his feelings for his best friend, which confirms their rekindled romance.

According to the publication, "New Girl" Season 7 will feature huge milestones for the main characters. The eight-episode season will cover the changes in their lives in the period of one year. Likewise, the finale will reportedly also include a major milestone feature for these characters.

This storyline for "New Girl" Season 7 is supposedly what attracted Fox to renew the series. Showrunner and executive producer Liz Meriwether made a last minute pitch about the time jump that saved the show. The network eventually gave the new and final season a green light on Sunday.

There have been very few details revealed so far as to the storyline for "New Girl "Season 7. Co-showrunner Brett Baer had revealed that the installment will continue to explore the Nick-Jess love story. He hinted that the final season will keep their dynamic interesting and exciting.

"We have options in a potential Season 7 to keep some level of [excitement] in that relationship. We've been talking about creative solutions to that dynamic and how to move forward in a way that wouldn't just be like a one-directional approach," Baer told TV Line.

Fox has yet to announce a release date for "New Girl" Season 7. However, the original casts are expected to return, with Deschanel reprising Jess after her maternity leave.
