Cleveland Browns fans are ready for 2012 Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel to take over for Brian Hoyer, who has struggled mightily after a hot start, according to "USA Today." Browns head coach Mike Pettine named Hoyer the starter of the rookie Manziel at the start of the season. Manziel was already one of the most famous and popular football players in the country after an illustrious career at Texas A&M earned him the nickname "Johnny Football." But Hoyer performed well, leading the Browns to a 6-3 start before the wheels began to fall apart. Cleveland is now 1-3 in its last four games, and ESPN reports that Hoyer has led the Browns to just one touchdown drive in his last 29 series. With pressure mounting to make a change, Pettine stuck with Hoyer Sunday, Dec. 7, against the Indianapolis Colts. He went just 14 for 31 for 140 yards, throwing two interceptions. The game was only close because Cleveland's defense put up 14 points. Read More »

In the second high-profile instance of professional athletes making political statements in support of the protests occurring in St. Louis, Missouri, and New York City, Chicago Bulls star guard Derrick Rose etched his position on the side of support for late New Yorker Eric Garner by wearing a shirt that read "I Can't Breathe" during warm-ups before Saturday, Dec. 6's game against the Golden State Warriors. Garner died in July in a police chokehold while he was being arrested. A grand jury decided not to indict the police officer in the incident, inspiring protests around the country that echo those for Michael Brown, the 18-year-old young black man who was killed by a police officer this summer in Ferguson, Missouri. "I Can't Breathe" alludes to Garner's last words, which were captured on video. ESPN reported that earlier this week NBA legend Magic Johnson said athletes need to participate in social movements. That's almost two straight years of losing. For comparison, the Philadelphia 76ers last week narrowly missed making NBA history after starting the season 0-17. The 76ers hadn't won a game in 231 days. At one point, NJIT was going on two years. Read More »
