Ex-Red Sox Pitcher Curt Schilling Goes Hard At Johnny Manziel, Barack Obama, Media On Twitter

By joseph-trezza | Dec 28, 2014 12:12 PM EST

Merry Christmas to the 96,700 morons who follow former Boston Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling on Twitter — the arrestingly hypocritical blowhard celebrated the holiday by spewing a slew of irrational thoughts from his bigger-than-he-thinks-people-notice head. In the past 72 hours, Schilling has attacked President Barack Obama, Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel and, in a hilarious twist of irony, the American media. Since that last little entity is what currently employs Schilling, who's eligible for the Baseball Hall of Fame for the first time this year, let's start there. "Most corrupt media on earth #AmericaInFiveWords," Schilling tweeted Saturday, Dec. 27. Schilling has worked as a baseball analyst for ESPN, the single most rich and powerful sports media company in the world, since 2010, according to the company's website. Who was it again who hyped Schilling's "bloody sock" performance in the 2004 American League Championship Series so hard that it so rapidly cemented into baseball immortality that it basically overshadowed an injury-plagued career mired by regular-season mediocrity? Yeah, that was the media, too. Read More »

Sam spoke with Oprah for a documentary that aired Saturday, Dec. 27, in which the former St. Louis Rams and Dallas Cowboys practice player detailed how difficult it was for him to be accepted even in his own home. "They called me a lot of things," Sam said, according to TMZ. "They called me a f-g. They called me 'gay.' They called me anything you could think of — just to hurt me." During the interview, Sam changed his stance on whether he thinks his sexuality cost him a spot in the NFL. Sam was released by the Rams and the Cowboys, never appearing in a game. He was drafted in the seventh round after winning the SEC Defensive Player of the Year Award at Missouri in 2013. Read More »

By joseph-trezza | Dec 26, 2014 06:13 PM EST

Nobody is saying that Seattle Seahawks RB Marshawn Lynch conducts himself in the most professional way. He is notorious for failing to speak to reporters and for giving childish one-word protest answers when he is forced to. Football players are rich and famous for showing, week after week, that they have giant cajones. But this week, Lynch was fined by the NFL for grabbing his. Read More »

The rest of the set cracked up at the aftermath of what started as an innocent race to the on-set Christmas tree (for whatever reason), and America enjoyed it as well, with Twitter exploding with laughter. Naughty Or Nice? NBA Christmas Scuffle Results In Fine For John Wall, Suspension For Quincy Acy

By joseph-trezza | Dec 26, 2014 01:09 PM EST

Whatever happened to Christmas cheer? Every year, it seems the NBA takes the day to pin bitter rivals against one another. This year, things could have gotten heated as LeBron James returned to Miami for the first time. How many times have the Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics played on national TV? Surprisingly, though, the biggest beef this holiday season came from the Washington Wizards and New York Knicks. According to Yahoo! Sports, Wizards point guard John Wall has been fined $15,000 and Knicks forward Quincy Acy has been fined one game for an incident that involved shoving between the two players. Wall shoved Acy in the fourth quarter of the Wizards's 102-91 win after Acy fouled Wall on a play he received a flagrant foul for. Acy was ejected, according to ESPN, and didn't agree with the call. Wall clearly wasn't happy with the hard foul, but Acy didn't throw a punch until Wall shoved him with both hands. Read More »

Kansas City Chiefs: 1st Team Without Any TDs Thrown To WRs?

By joseph-trezza | Dec 26, 2014 12:43 PM EST

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith has thrown a respectable 18 touchdowns this season — more than Cam Newton, Colin Kapaernick and Andy Dalton. But none of them have gone to Chiefs wide receivers. That's right. In an incredibly bizarre streak, no Kansas City receiver has caught a touchdown all season, according to Deadspin. Where, then, have Smith's touchdowns come from? Tight end Travis Kelce and running back Jamaal Charles are tied for the team lead in touchdown receptions with five, followed by tight end Anthony Fasano's four and running back Joe McKnight, who has two. Running back Knile Davis and Anthony Sherman, the fullback, have chipped in with one score each. The Chiefs aren't without talented receivers. Wideout Dwayne Bower once scored 15 in a season but has zero this year, according to the "News Tribune." Read More »

By joseph-trezza | Dec 26, 2014 12:23 PM EST

The Washington Nationals signed second baseman Dan Uggla to a minor-league contract Friday, Dec. 26, according to espn.com, in a low-risk move made with the hope of catching lightning in a bottle. Uggla is a three-time MLB All-Star who's still just 34 and could have some pop left in his bat. But ... God has he been bad lately. In case you forgot about his completely forgettable past few seasons, here's a recap: • Uggla signed a five-year, $62 million contract with the Atlanta Braves in 2011 and immediately hit 36 home runs for the Braves. • His batting average slipped the next two seasons, first to .220, then to .179 in 2013. Uggla was never much of a batting average threat, but his power subsided as well. He made several high-profile errors at second base. Read More »

MLB Hot Stove: Orioles, Mets, Yankees, Cubs Baseball Teams Could All Still Improve In The New Year [VIDEO]

By joseph-trezza | Dec 23, 2014 03:39 PM EST

This has been one of the most exciting MLB Hot Stove seasons in recent memory, with the Dodgers completely revamping their roster, the Padres, White Sox and Marlins making serious moves towards contention, and the Red Sox stealing two former NL West stars. The Dodgers, for example, have made more than 30 transcations in seven weeks, according to SB Nation, one which included sending starting outfielder and former MVP candidate Matt Kemp to a division rival. They also sent away an All-Star in his 20s in Dee Gordon. This after winning the division last season. So it's been an interesting winter. Still, there are a few teams with items still on their shopping lists. Here are four squads that can get better in the new year. Read More »
