The Cleveland Browns have suspended Josh Gordon for the final game of their NFL season. The star wide receiver apparently missed the team's practice walkthrough and has been suspended one game for violating team rules. He will miss the team's Week 17 tilt against the Baltimore Ravens. Rookie quarterback Johnny Manziel also reportedly missed the walkthrough, but as he's injured, has been excused. With Gordon only playing five games this year, it also means that the talented receiver will be a restricted free agent after the year, rather than unrestricted, and raises the prospect that Cleveland could trade the star. New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan believes he will be fired after this season and has reportedly already cleaned out his desk ahead of what appears to be his final game in charge of the New York NFL team. Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith has thrown a respectable 18 touchdowns this season — more than Cam Newton, Colin Kapaernick and Andy Dalton. But none of them have gone to Chiefs wide receivers. That's right. In an incredibly bizarre streak, no Kansas City receiver has caught a touchdown all season, according to Deadspin. Where, then, have Smith's touchdowns come from? Tight end Travis Kelce and running back Jamaal Charles are tied for the team lead in touchdown receptions with five, followed by tight end Anthony Fasano's four and running back Joe McKnight, who has two. Running back Knile Davis and Anthony Sherman, the fullback, have chipped in with one score each. The Chiefs aren't without talented receivers. In the latest chapter of the at-times sad saga of Dallas Cowboys linebacker Rolando McClain, the linebacker's house burned down Monday, Dec. 22, according to al.com. According to al.com, the home in Lake Tuscaloosa, Alabama, was nearly 7,500 square feet and listed at an asking price of $1.5 million. McClain was drafted No. 8 overall in 2010 after an exceptional college career at the University of Alabama, where he won the Lambert Award, given to the nation's best linebacker. But McClain's career has been marred with tragedy, run-ins with the law and sudden, premature retirements. McClain retired for the second time in April, at the age of 24, according to espn.com. He returned to play for the Dallas Cowboys, where he has recorded 65 tackles and two interceptions in 16 games for the NFC East champions. Read More »
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are close to — temporarily, of course — fixing their quarterback issues. All they need to do is lose another game. What's one more loss? The Bucs already have the worst record in the league at 2-13 and play in the worst division, the NFC South. One more loss could clinch the No. 1 pick in next year's NFL Draft, according to CBS Sports. But who will the Bucs choose? The consensus seems to be Heisman Trophy winner Marcus Mariota, who will lead Oregon against last year's Heisman winner Jameis Winston in the Rose Bowl on New Year's Day. Mariota had a historic junior season on his way to becoming the first Oregon Duck to win the Heisman, awarded to the nation's top player. Mariota won in a landslide after tossing 38 touchdowns against two interceptions and leading the Ducks to the No. 2 overall seed. But could Winston be an option also? The in-state product led Florida State to an undefeated run to the National Title last season, and the Seminoles are 13-0 again this year. Read More »

Johnny Manziel was sworn in as the Cleveland Browns's starting quarterback amid much fanfare and controversy. Less than two weeks later, Manziel was gone. Manziel left his second career NFL start Sunday, Dec. 21, against the Carolina Panthers with a hamstring injury and didn't return to action, as the Browns lost their fourth straight game 17-13. Manziel fell down after trying to get up from a hit by Panthers safety Colin Jones on a designed quarterback run, according to espn.com. "As I kept walking more and more, it just felt like something I hadn't experienced before," Manziel told ESPN. "I figured I needed to get checked out. Pretty frustrating." Manziel completed three of eight passes for 32 yards, a week after completing 10 of 18 passes, but throwing two interceptions in his debut. Manziel has still to throw a touchdown in 27 career passing attempts. Fans celebrated, cheering as Manziel was helped off the field by trainers, according to Fox Sports Ohio. For the Falcons to get in, they need to beat the Carolina Panthers in Week 17. The Lions and the Packers have both clinched playoff berths, but the winner of the Week 17 matchup between the two teams will decide who enters the postseason as North Division champions and No.2 seed and who goes in as a wild card.
