Four innocent individuals, a grandmother and her three young grandchildren, were shot and murdered on an American Indian reservation territory in New Town, North Dakota on Sunday (Nov. 18). 64-year-old Martha Johnson and her three grandkids were gunned down at her home on the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation while her husband was out hunting. One other grandchild managed to escape the bloodshed and promptly called 911. A man thought to be the person of interest committed suicide just hours later - law enforcement do not believe there is any more threat to the public. Read More »
It looks like U.S. Olympic Swimmer and gold medalist Missy Franklin is ready to suit up and swim on her high school team - but that's only if they will take her. The 17-year-old athlete would love to give her high school swim team a helping hand, but understands that such a decision could lead to much negative backlash from other (jealous and intimidated) schools and athletes. According to Franklin the decision is hard as to whether she should join teammates poolside at the Regis Jesuit High School in Aurora, Colorado - some friends are all for it, while others think she should just remain cheering in the stands. Reports confirm that director Cynthia Mort has cast Afro-Latina actress Zoe Saldana to star as the High Priestess of Soul in a highly-anticipated, upcoming Nina Simone biopic entitled "Nina." The recent casting announcement has sparked much controversy over the color of Saldana's skin - many critics believe that while the "Avatar" star is a very talented actress, her skin is much too light (especially in consideration of "traditional" Hollywood beauty standards) to portray the turbulent and remarkable life of the late jazz songstress and Civil Rights activist. Shaheen Dhada, a 21-year-old student from India, was recently arrested for supposedly penning a Facebook status that "hurt and threatened religious sentiments" in the city of Mumbai. Dhada's controversial social media message complained about Mumbai shutting down its streets for the funeral of contentious Hindu nationalist politician Balasaheb Thackeray. R&B legend Billy Scott, front man of the popular beach music band Billy Scott and the Party (Georgia) Prophets, died at his Charlotte, North Carolina home on Saturday (Nov. 17), allegedly from pancreatic and liver cancer. Nicole Delien, a 17-year-old from Pennsylvania, may just be the real life Sleeping Beauty. Thanks to a rare sleeping disorder called Kleine-Levine, or "Sleeping Beauty Syndrome," the young teenager slept for a whopping 64 days straight last year - right through Christmas!
